Pressure Upgrades
Get The Best Shower In Tauranga With A Mains Pressure HWC. Upgrade your Tauranga home to a mains pressure HWC today
Modern tapware and styles work best with mains pressure. If you want a great shower with the latest fixtures, you need a mains-pressure hot water cylinder.
Hot Water Guy is Tauranga’s hot water system specialist servicing the wider Bay of Plenty area. We can replace your old hot water cylinder, install a new 180-litre tank or larger and organise the electrician.
In a retrofit Installation, we will need to run a 20mm copper pipe to the outside wall for the relief valve to operate. We can run this along a wall or under a timber floor if there is enough crawl space underneath. We’ll also update the seismic restraints and install a tempering valve to achieve compliance. Upgrade now and enjoy the best shower of your life.
Is it time to replace your low-pressure hot water cylinder?
Homes built before the 1990s typically had low-pressure hot water cylinders. Keeping your old geyser tank might make sense for your holiday home or rental, where water usage is low or requires stricter controls. However, these low-pressure systems don’t have tempering valves, which is a safety concern should they reach a critical point. In addition, there is a risk of scalding, especially for children and older people who may be unable to react quickly.
If you want to upgrade your low-pressure hot water cylinder to mains, contact Hot Water Guy. We have the expertise and knowledge to recommend the best hot water system for your household or business requirements. Your tank must be accurately sized and matched to avoid being let down by performance.

Main-pressure relief valves - the importance of maintenance
At Hot Water Guy in Tauranga, we only use New Zealand-made Apex valves because of their superior quality and warranties.
All main-pressure hot water cylinders have relief valves, an essential safety mechanism. During the heating process, as the heat inside your cylinder builds, so does the pressure. A relief valve releases excess pressure, stopping your tank from over-pressurising and stopping steam explosions.
A cold water expansion valve (CWE) is a safety device for controlling cold water pressure entering a cylinder. As water heats and expands, the valve opens to release the excess pressure. Maintaining optimal pressure levels protects against potential leaks or bursts caused by thermal expansion. It’s also for efficiency, relieving excess pressure through cold water instead of the TPR valve that will discharge hot water, saving energy costs. It is normal for a CWE to discharge six to eight litres of water per day.
A temperature pressure relief valve (TPR) is another crucial safety feature in your water heating system. It automatically releases water if the temperature or pressure within the tank exceeds safe limits, preventing tanks from overheating and exploding.
